Role of Dead cells in our life

Every body part has its own role to play. Even the dead cells in your body play a vital role, like your hair add to your personality, and your nails protect your fingertips from injuries. When we talk about nails, we think of ever-growing part of your body that you have to cut down every week or ten days. Your fingernails are not just dead cells that you cut off after few days, they are much more than that. In addition to giving looks to your hands and fingers, your fingernails tell a lot about your health. A fingernail protects the tips of your fingers from injury because there are several nerve endings in your fingers, which, if injured, can cause problems with functioning of finger and/or hand. Your fingernails, along with your hair, the only two things that even grow after your death. A typical fingernail grows from 0.05 mm to 1.2 mm per week; it can also grow more, depending on your diet.

Disorders are part and parcel of life, and nail disorders are extremely common.

Most of the times these disorders go unnoticed, unless very painful. Primarily, nail disorders are result of nutritional deficiencies and/or because of abnormality in any other part of the body. Your nails reflect your inner health, far more loudly and clearly than you can imagine. Therefore, ancient medical practitioners used to refer to nails of an individual in order to deduce the problem area.

Nails can develop several problems along the course of an individual's life. Different fingernail disorders that a person can suffer from are onychia, onychocryptosis, onychodystrophy, onychogryposis, onychomycosis, onycholysis, and onychomycosis. Onychia is a medical condition in which nail folds get swollen along with formation of pus in them; nail eventually falls. Onychocryptosis is also known by name of ingrown nail and can affect fingers and/or toes. In such a condition, the nail cuts into the nail bed from both or either sides, resulting in painful inflammation and infection. Onychodystrophy can result in deformation and discoloration of the nail and can be caused because of chemotherapy. Onychogryposis results in thickening of nail along with an increase in its curvature. It can be due to an injury or hereditary.

The condition is painful and difficult to get rid of. Onycholysis is loosening of the nail from the nail bed from the exposed portion, usually starting from free edge and continuing to the lunula. It can be due to injury, allergy, or side effect. Another severe and painful condition of nail is onychomadesis. In such a condition, nail separates and falls off the nail bed. It can be due to infection, injury, chemotherapy, x-rays, or even illness. Another painful and gruesome condition of fingernails is onychomycosis. It is also called tinea unguium and is result of a fungal infection. It causes thickening, discoloration, chalkiness, and crumbling of the nails.
