REPORTS TO: Quality Manager
POSITION SUMMARY:
The role of the Quality Engineer is primarily to provide support to the Quality Department. Product realization and program development are the primary focus of the position. As such, interaction and interface with all other departments is critical. The Quality Engineer shall develop, implement and maintain many of the key elements of the ISO-9000 quality operating system as per direction from the Quality Manager. Continuous Improvement, Corrective and Preventive Action and Product Quality Planning are key to this role. Ensuring follow-up on these items is particularly important.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Must work in accordance with Health & Safety regulations, Company rules, policies and procedures
- Must use or wear equipment, protective devices or clothing as required by the company
- Participate in the development and ensure full implementation of the ISO-9000 quality operating system.
- Participate and interface with other departments on product realization activities (APQP).
- Spearhead PPAP and ensure that PPAP submissions are professional, thorough, on time and acceptable.
- Develop inspection methods and procedures for use on the shop floor that are user-friendly and accessible.
- Identify key areas for inspection and control with inspection processes. Identify and implement SPC at identified points in select processes.
- Identify and quantify quality improvements in process, materials and product.
- Provide training to employees on ISO requirements and subsequent documentation (procedures, work instructions, forms).
- Develop and maintain systems for the maintenance and calibration of metrological equipment.
- Conduct and direct internal auditing as per the annual internal quality auditing schedule.
- Administratively support the initiatives of the Quality Manager, including data management and tracking.
- Develop any necessary forms to ensure effective control of inspection processes with subsequent data to be provided for further analysis. Provide information to the Quality Manager for use in management performance measurables review.
- Utilize defect tracking reports and information (internally and customer generated) to drive continuous improvement on the inspection line.
- Identify any and all issues that require corrective and/or preventive action and ensure that subsequent actions are documented thoroughly and pursued through to completion.
- Interaction and Interface with other departments is required. All other duties as assigned.
COMPETENCIES (Job Knowledge/Skill, Education and related experience)
- High School graduate (or equivalent) required.
- Post-Secondary Education and/or Training in a quality-related field required.
- Metrology experience and training required.
- Quality systems and implementation experience (ISO-9000 required)
- Experience in an industrial fabrication and assembly environment preferred.
