There are a lot of weird phobias in the world. For example Alektorophobia ? the fear of chickens, Lachanophobia ? an intense fear of vegetables and Venustraphobia ? being terrified of beautiful women.
But there?s a phobia out there that is as weird as it is stupid. Introducing Nomophobia ? the terror of being without a mobile phone. Yes, it?s a real thing. Who knew?
The Irish Independent reports that two-thirds of people suffer from Nomophobia according to a new study.
In fact, researchers found that 66 per cent of people are absolutely terrified at the thoughts of being without their phone. We?re talking full on panic-stricken reactions here, and apparently, the younger you are, the bigger your fear is likely to be.
Nomophobia was first identified in 2008 and since then, the problem has increased as more and more people are admitting to suffering from the unusual fear.
The study also revealed that 41 per cent of the people polled have even bought a second (and in some cases, a third) mobile phone so that they can stay connected, even if they lose one of their phones.
Women worry about losing their phones more than men, yet the survey discovered that it was men who were more likely to have? multiple phones, in case they misplaced one. When it comes to younger people, the 18 to 24 age bracket suffer the worst from the phobia.
Do you have an intense fear of losing your mobile? Would you suffer withdrawal symptoms if you couldn?t text for a few hours?
If you answered yes to the above questions, you might need some help.
